Either:

• The FTP server could not be contacted. Check that the "FTP server" setting in the FTP Server Details page of the wizard is correct.
• The isn't an FTP server running at the given machine.
• The FTP server terminated the connection. If this error occurred after backups had been happening successfully, then it's possible there is a temporary problem with the FTP server
